Port Moresby General Hospital Emergency Centre is a public service facility, open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing urgent priority care in the case of accidents, illness and medical emergencies.
The Centre features state-of-the-art life saving equipment in resuscitation areas, cardiac cubicles, general examination cubicles, an orthopaedic procedure room, paediatric assessment room and an ENT/eye room. Our new centre has:
- New emergency department opened Dec 2012
- 31 beds (1 Resus room, 3 Resus Bays, 7 acute beds, 10 Short stay beds, 10 “Isolation” Beds)
- 65,000 presentations/year
- up to 60 patients registered per 8 hr shift
- Case mix estimated to be 15% paediatrics, 20% trauma, 20% TB, 20% Malaria
- Staff: 5 fulltime emergency physicians, 12 registrars, 5 residents
- Registrar teaching every Tuesdays and Fridays from 9am – 10am
